Comments on someone else's instructions

This is where you can post your comments on someone else's instructions (whether you chose to comment on good instructions or bad ones). You post in the usual way (click on the Comment link below, paste your comment into the text box, click on the 'Anonymous' radio button, and then click on Login and Publish).

There are ten marks for this part of the Task. The criteria I'll be using to mark this part are like this:

0-5 marks: your comments are superficial, not very substantial and don't pay much attention to the recommendations in the Effective Writing extract

6 marks: your comments are adequate, and pay some attention to the recommendations, but don't cover the instructions being commented on in full detail

7 marks: your comments are appropriate, pay attention to the recommendations, and cover most of the points in the instructions being commented on

8 marks: you've made thorough and appropriate comments and drawn very clear connections to the recommendations

Some Bad Instructions

This is the post you can add your *bad* instructions to. (Remember that you're only submitting one set of instructions - so you have to choose between submitting some bad instructions or some good ones.)

They can be instructions you've thought of for yourself, or they can be ones you've found somewhere. Remember that they don't need to be too comprehensive - you're going write a whole instruction manual for Task 4, so there's no need to produce one now.

You post by clicking on the Comment link at the bottom of this post, and that will take you to a page where you can find a text box in which to add your instructions.

*REMEMBER TO WRITE YOUR NAME AT THE END OF YOUR INSTRUCTIONS* If you don't, I won't know whose they are.

This part of Task 2 is worth 5 marks in all.

---------

You can also use someone else's instructions posted here to complete the second part of Task 2, which is worth 10 marks.

This time you need to make a judgement about the instructions according to the information contained in the extract from Effective Writing (at the end of your Compendium).

You do this by simply adding another Comment, but this time start your comment like this:

"Comment on (name of original poster)'s Instructions by (your name)"

That way, I know which instructions you're basing your comments on, and also who the person making the comments is.

---------

I will be sending you a private mail with a mark for each part of Task 4 later on in the week.

You'll be doing more instruction-writing for Task 3, which we'll be doing in class on Friday, 21st April. If you manage to get both parts of Task 2 on the blog by Wednesday, 19th April, I'll have the chance to give you feedback before Task 3 needs to be complete.

As always, mail me and ask if there's anything which isn't clear.

Some Good Instructions

This is the post you can add your *good* instructions to.

How to post your Task 2s

I've created two posts: Good Instructions and Bad Instructions. Click on the Comment link under the post of your choice, and paste your instructions into the text box you'll see on the right. Then click on Login and Publish … and your instructions should then appear on the left.

You do exactly the same when you're commenting on other people's instructions: just click on the Comment link and add your comment about their instructions.

I think I've set this up so that you'll need to create a User Name for yourself when you try to post a comment. It's free … and it's also a good way of sharing information about yourself with the other people on the course.

Now I'm editing my own post. I've just changed the settings so that you can post anonymously, if you want … though if you don't tell me who you are, I can't give you any marks!

Welcome to the Task 2 blog

This blog has been set up specifically to enable students on the English for Industrial Engineers course at Högskolan i Kalmar in the Spring Term of 2006 to post their good and bad instructions for Task 2.
